Free running and fresh air for dogs at Stokenchurch
Stokenchurch Dog Rescue in Buckinghamshire was set up by local residents in 1963 to save the lives of stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs, as well as those impounded by the police. Since then it has successfully re-homed thousands of dogs and is well known for its non-destruct policy.
The charity was delighted to receive £4,000 from the Animal Rescue Foundation in April 2013 towards establishing a dedicated area for dogs in the Isolation Unit to get free running exercise and fresh air, and reduce any anxiety of being kennel bound while waiting for health clearance. Using the facility also aids the recovery and recuperation of dogs that have had a spell in Isolation due to sickness and are being nursed back to health.
When a dog arrives at the rescue centre it is given a medical assessment before a stay in the refurbished isolation unit for 7-10 days to ensure it is fit and healthy..
There are 41 bright, modern and comfortable dog rooms, with a variety of toys and comfortable bedding to make sure dogs live in a relaxed and homely environment with, where possible, a companion for company , and all rooms have a patio area where dogs can exercise between walks.
Once a dog’s behaviour and personality are understood it is put forward for adoption to a new loving home and its details are listed on the charity’s website.
